FIRST WEEK WOHOO!!!
Definitely a scary feeling jumping into this profession and being the little intern running around the office but it was definitely the most exciting feeling I have ever experienced!
About my internship (because I know you wanna know!!!!)

This summer I will be interning at Mindy Webb Design in Sarasota, Florida under direct supervision of Mindy Webb herself. With 17 years of experience under her belt, Mindy has just ventured out into creating her own Design Firm with a focus on high-end residential design. But before she got to this major step in her career, she was a territory sales manager for a commercial design materials company for large-scale, worldwide commercial projects. Her projects over the years include cities such as Chicago, Miami, Tampa Bay, and Sarasota. Getting to work with Mindy is such a unique experience because of the fact that she is not only playing the roll of an Interior Designer, but also she is in the midst of jumpstarting her company giving me the chance to see the ins-and-outs of owning and managing your own company. Safe to say Mindy Webb definitely has branded herself as elegant, sophisticated, and timeless in her designs!!
MY FIRST DAY, HERES THE LOW DOWN!
MONDAY
My first day I left my house to make the hour drive to Sarasota not knowing how long it would actually take me to get there. I stopped for Starbucks (because those who know me and sit alongside me at school know this is a MUST HAVE every morning for me) then I made my way to the office only to realize I was 15 minutes early. Now I like to be early but this was way too early even for me, but better safe than sorry. At 11am I got a call from Mindy saying she was here to let me into the office! She introduced me to the Architects and Contractors in the office and showed me to my desk right next to hers. Guys let me tell you, this is the cutest building ever and right up my alley filled with black and white vintage photos with an edgy look. Go ahead and say it, its a perfect match. Mindy and I sat to chat a bit and she told me all about her history as a designer and all about herself and how she made it here to good ole Sarasota, FL. Then we had just talked so much we decided to go to lunch and continue our conversations! Once we got back to the office with full stomachs and smiling faces, Mindy began to walk me through the current project she has...consisting of 8 bathrooms...right on the beach. Talk about a dream project to work on as an intern! 4pm approached quickly, bringing my first day to an end.

TUESDAY!!
My second day started off with a brief overview of how Mindy uses "contracts" and I got to help her create an Invoice template for Mindy Webb Design!! I knew my photoshop skills would come in handy, haters :) ALSO SHOUT OUT TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES SPRING 2018 FOR GIVING ME SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON ALL OF THIS.
Then after a luck break at one of Mindy's favorite little gems in Sarasota (yes we eat out a lot, we are working on it, but thats another story for another time) the rest of my day consisted of construction documents and Revit as I put the 7000+ sq. ft. home into Revit so we have a shell for materials, specification sheets, and space planning. Yes, I am one of the lucky ones who gets to use Revit this summer, wohoo!! But, despite my Revit skills, this was no walk in the park. This custom build home gave me 101 headaches on Tuesday because it got a little confusing.
But nevertheless she persisted
Sorry, that felt necessary. Anyways, Mindy then gave me a much needed break by taking me SAMPLE SHOPPING! Mrs. Claire was definitely right when she said if you can get your hands on some samples, you will learn so much. And believe me, working with samples this week has been a heavensent. I have gotten to play around with so many cool designs and see exactly where they would be best used according to the material. Fun learning experience. After finishing the shell, it was 6pm and time had truly escaped us, and finally it was time to go home and LUCKY ME, I got a day off on Wednesday to rejuvenate at the gym and by the pool! :)
THURSDAY AND FRIYAY!
Both Thursday and Friday we began plugging in the materials we already had for the project getting them ready to be sent over to the General Contractor. With 8 bathrooms of new, different materials, my head was spinning at the end! But our combinations came out grand! We took a break both days to go grab lunch...don't judge us, then we stopped to pick up some materials we were missing to tie up some loose ends! Both days were full days of office utilization, but we got so much accomplished! Best first week experience I could have asked for!

NEXT UP: A LONG WEEKEND.
Catch me next week with more adventures, and who knows maybe even a client visit... or two ;)
